The Mid-America Science Park welcomed two new talented interns this fall – Baird White from Scottsburg New Tech High School and Chase Heaton from Shawe Memorial High School in Madison, Ind.
Baird is participating in a Professional Business Internship program that allows him to work at MASP one hour a day throughout the fall semester. He supports several of MASP’s technology functions and has learned new skills such as how to push software out over a server and repair various computer problems. Baird plans to attend Ivy Tech for two years and then transfer to Purdue University to complete his bachelor’s degree.
While the internship has been more challenging than Baird expected, he is excited about gaining experience that will help prepare him for a successful career in networking and IT. “I love it here. This is the highlight of my day,” said Baird.
Chase plans to intern at MASP through the summer of 2014 as part of a Professional Career Internship program offered by the Indiana Department of Education. The goal of the program is to provide opportunities for students to explore careers that require degrees or certifications beyond high school.
Chase is developing marketing skills while learning how to start a business and manage a company. He is responsible for sales and marketing for MASP tenant, Energy Zone, LLC. He is also assisting companies that contact MASP about starting a business with marketing activities such as logo design, website development, signage and brochures. Chase plans to attend Ball State to pursue a degree in entrepreneurship or finance while starting his own e-cigarette company.
